A deadly terrorist attack tore through a security checkpoint in Tank district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Saturday, killing 15 security personnel in one of the most brazen assaults on Pakistani forces in recent months. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the attack involved suicide bombers and an explosives-laden vehicle, with the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan claiming responsibility.

In the ensuing engagement, security forces killed 12 militants, whom ISPR designated as "Khawarij." Follow-up clearance operations were launched across the district and into surrounding terrain near the Afghan border, as military commanders vowed to neutralise any remaining threat networks in the area.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, speaking at a separate event in Islamabad, stated unequivocally that India is behind terrorism in Pakistan and called for collective national confrontation of the challenge. He offered no fresh evidence for the claim, which Islamabad has made in various forms for months — and which New Delhi categorically denies.

The Tank attack comes as security forces in Balochistan report simultaneous operations against what ISPR describes as Indian-sponsored militant groups under Operation Al-Azm. Officials say at least 13 militants were killed in the Mastung area, with hideouts destroyed. The convergence of attacks on two separate fronts within the same 24-hour window has drawn concern from defence analysts watching Pakistan's security landscape.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, speaking alongside the Prime Minister at the inauguration of the Sky47 Karakorum-01 Data Centre in Islamabad, was brief on the Tank situation but emphasised the resolve of security forces to respond firmly to any terrorist provocation. The data centre inauguration itself — touted as a symbol of Pakistan's technological ambitions — was overshadowed by the morning's grim news from the frontier.

On the global stage, the grinding US–Iran confrontation and Red Sea disruptions threaten energy prices, shipping costs, and regional stability. Pakistan's diplomatic efforts — through SCO platforms, quiet mediation channels with China and Iran, and calls for restraint — are prudent.
